MMA Punching Bag – A Must For a Boxer

January 30th, 2010

MMA punching bag is indeed a must for a boxer as it provides ample training and help to improve their boxing skills and martial arts skills. These specialized bags are available under the Everlast brand and come in different colors like yellow, blue, red, and black. The weight ranges anywhere between 50 lbs to 150 lbs. One can choose from the different types of MMA punch bags that are available…Teddy Everlast uppercut bags and Muay Thai workout bags. One can get the full MMA kit too in the form of Everlast punch bag along with gloves; the swivel and heavy duty chain so that they can safely hang it and practice the sport.

The youth MMA punching bag is an added attraction for serious boxers as they get a double end bag on which they can practice or get trained. Everlast punch bags have been in existence for almost a century now and with every passing year have only improved upon the entire range of products keeping the comfort and safety of the boxers in mind.

With the Muay Thai Everlast punch bag, one can train just like a professional from the luxury of their own home. It is a tall heavy bag which comes with ceiling and floor fixtures. Another great Everlast punch bag is the Teddy Everlast Uppercut bag which comes in two parts. The upper part has a larger radius when compared to the lower part facilitating training under different angles so that the boxer is well prepared when he encounters a similar situation in a real fight.

The Everlast punch bags which are available under the MMA punching bag tag offer tremendous scope to practice different uppercuts, jabs, crosses, punches and hooks so that the boxer is adequately equipped to quip with the right kind of a counter move.

Dave Toub is a strong believer in MMA punching bags and would never train with anything else. Please check out one of my favorite MMA punching bags and see the Punching Bags Pro Homepage if you are interested in other gear as well.

Punching Harder – Punch Through Like a Hot Knife Into Butter

December 26th, 2009

Are you a heavier martial artist? Other martial artists may think of us as “slower,” but we have several advantages. One of the advantages has to do with our punch possibilities. How would you like your punching to be so hard, that the punch melts through any resistance like a hot knife going into butter?

I am a ‘heavier martial artist.’ I weigh 277 pounds as of this writing, though I am working on lowering that number. Many would think that heavy martial artists are at a big disadvantage. You are at a disadvantage, as long as you attempt to fight like a thin, wiry martial artist. You have to develop your own customized skills — play to your strengths as you minimize your weaknesses.

Punching Harder Using Your Whole Body

Since you are a heavy martial artist, you have to learn to use your weight to your advantage. And one advantage is putting your weight into your punches.

This does not mean drawing your fist back before swinging at your target or in any way telegraphing your intent. You still employ all of the technique and precision of a ‘lighter martial artist.’ The difference is you have more weight behind your punch. If the bad guy holds his hands in front of his (or her) face, you punch over and into them and collapse the fists and or arms right into his own head.

You can do this because of your power. If you are facing a fighter with his hands in a decent guard position, you know that with your power, you can punch through the smallest of openings. Your strike widens the opening.

Whether you are punching over and through, up and through from underneath, or wedging an opening to the side, you don’t find much resistance getting to your attacker. Imagine

a hammer busting through … toothpicks. And when you happen to hit a vulnerable area, your punching harder will really work to your advantage.

All of this because you are heavy and know how to put your weight behind your punch. For you, the key to punching harder is tapping into the power that your body size can generate.

Elbow strikes and counters are especially suited for heavy martial artists — nice short power techniques — download my new, free ebooklet, Elbow Strikes and Counters

Punching Bag Workouts to Lose Weight

December 16th, 2009

If you are a few pounds over your ideal weight, the chances are that you have tried many diets and exercise programs to try and slim down. There seems to be hundreds of diets available, some of them sensible and some of them just downright ridiculous! If we are honest with ourselves, we know that the only way that we can fight the flab and keep it off is with a sensible eating plan and an exercise regimen that is realistic enough for us to follow. All too often we set ourselves goals that we are unable to reach as they require dedicating our lives to following strict, and sometimes very boring, training plans. I wonder if you have ever considered using one of the popular punching bag workouts to lose weight?

These days, punching bags are becoming more and more popular and are making an appearance at nearly every gym and training facility. They have been used by boxers and martial arts students for many years and are a highly respected training tool. But, you must not worry… using punching bag workouts to lose weight will not necessarily make you look like a world heavyweight boxer! A training program can be structured so that you are using calories without building a huge amount of muscles in your shoulders and biceps.

A workout using a punching bag will increase your metabolism tremendously and that is what you need to be able to burn off the calories. Using punching bag workouts to lose weight could result in burning up around 135 calories in just 15 minutes. Obviously this is a general figure and can be increased or decreased depending on just how much energy you put into the routine. To be sure that you are working at your most efficient rate, you would be advised to take a visit to the local gym and have an assessment with a trained instructor. This way you will know that you are working at your optimum capacity for weight loss. Your progress can also be monitored and your weight measured to make sure that there is a steady loss.

It is quite a simple science to lose weight. All you have to do is to burn up more calories than you take in. As it is possible to burn up a lot of calories in a short space of time using punching bag workouts to lose weight you will probably see the benefits fairly quickly. You then have to ensure that you do not eat extra calories. A program of exercise will only be beneficial if it is used alongside a sensible, calorie controlled diet. Otherwise all you hard work will be in vain.
