Century Leather Wrap Bag Gloves (Black) CustomerReview

Size and just today came after about five days. The first thing I noticed about these gloves is that they are not completely in leather. The inside is a different type of material, which is understandable, because it seems to aid drying. The leather is thin on the outside, but again it is understandable that they are cheap. I used for about 30 minutes on the bag and seemed to run pretty well. I bought one size up so I could fit them Wraps (proposed by theothers), but I tried without as well as wraps and they felt good. Others have pointed out that the material is rough on their hands, but it seemed well to me. All in all, they are quite good gloves for the money. If there was anything I would change, I would be the leather a bit fatter and shorter fingers.

Anyway, this is my first reaction, I guess only time will tell how they keep …

EDIT: After a few weeks of owning it, I have found nothing wrongwith the gloves. I love her! Although I have lived through the rough interior, it is not bad. I have to wear wraps even with them, they only scratch my skin a little, and turn it red. I have not bled or become of them cut, so it did not say as bad as some people. I changed my opinion of the finger, I like their length. They cover well and provide good cushioning. All-in-all, I give these gloves 10.09.

How to Make Leather Flowers – What Do You Need?

June 15th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It’s easier than you think to make elegant and sophisticated leather flowers! Never fading, you can wear handmade leather flowers as jewelry or hair accessories, dress up a bag or belt, or fix them to wire or dowel stems to make a striking and permanent bouquet.

In contrast to many other leather crafts, you actually need very little equipment to start making leather flowers.

The first thing you’ll need, naturally, is some leather. Try to choose leather with a smooth surface on the reverse side – if it is a little ragged then you can gently go over it with sandpaper, but too much sanding may make the leather less absorbent and prevent it from soaking properly. You can buy leather for the purpose from a craft store, or recycle unwanted shoes, bags or leather clothing. Match the weight of your leather to the type of flower you are making – the more delicate the flower, the thinner leather you can use. This gives your handcrafted leather flowers a more natural look.

A pair of strong sharp scissors is a must. For best results your cuts should be neat and clean. I use a good quality pair of general-purpose craft scissors.

For moulding the leather, you need to soak it until it is saturated and flexible. A simple bowl of warm water will do the trick. A bain marie or double-boiler can speed up the process, though you should take care as the hotter the water the more stiff and prone to cracking your finished product may be.

Most moulding can be done simply with your hands and a little effort, but you may wish to experiment with using forms. These don’t have to be expensive purpose-made forms, you could use the back of a spoon, a large marble or rubber ball, or smooth rocks, as rounded and oval forms.

Though not absolutely essential – if you don’t have many holes to make you can use an awl or even a hammer and nail – a good leather punch comes in very useful if you plan to work with leather a lot. The rotary type with long handles makes punching various sized holes even is several thick layers a breeze.

You’ll also need some way of fixing layers and parts together. Rubber cement works well for gluing, if you want to sew your flowers – either in construction or to attach them to things later – then punch holes for the stitches and sew together with a stout needle and waxed thread. Leather will wear through normal sewing thread fairly quickly.

Now you know what you need, it’s time to make some flowers! Why not start with this simple yet lovely leather rose tutorial?

Everlast Train Elite Leather Wristwrap Heavy Bag Gloves CustomerReview

I’m 2nd degree black belt traditional kickboxer. I use these gloves on the heavy bag and I like them now. However, if you are use to those 16oz boxing gloves then these gloves will take getting use to. Actually, the MMA gloves are so unforgiving with improper punching techniques I recommend cutting back your power and analyze how you are hitting your first week before blasting a target. I scraped the skin off my finger knuckles and twist my waist in the beginning weeks when I didn’t know better. That is when I realized the problem wasn’t the gloves but my throwing technique was sloppy. Large ounce boxing gloves will lull you into poor technique because you never have to think of how to hit. Now I throw more accurately because I am fitting the weapon onto the target better.
My next tip is using hand wraps and tape your wrist is a must. The gloves should feel tight getting on over wraps and that is what you want. The inside of the gloves is cloth and may wear down the skin on your hand after repeated hits. If your knuckles slide around then the gloves are too large. The outside of the glove is leather and obviously is durable. Remember to get a tight fit and hit accurately in use of these gloves. The 6oz gloves are the closest thing to hitting with bare hands and I love the feel of my knuckles piercing through my target and you will too.

Buying a Leather Heavy Bag

December 27th, 2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A leather heavy bag is a specialized boxing bag designed to withstand years of abuse and help teach the boxer how to properly punch. It is designed to closely replicate the response that a gloved fist will have on a human body.

While there are many common types of boxing bags that a typical boxing gyms have, the leather heavy bag is a mainstay of all of them. A typical heavy bag, regardless of type weighs between forty and one-hundred pounds. The size of the bag is designated by the size and strength of the person punching.

For example, a 170 lb male with a strong punch should work on a seventy pound punching bag, while a professional boxer of the same weight would need a one-hundred pound bag. A lightweight or featherweight boxer would typically utilize a forty pound heavy bag.

The typical leather bag is covered in thick leather, similar in thickness to proper motorcycle grade leather. This leather varies in thickness but is typically one quarter of an inch thick. This allows the bag to withstand many more hits, regardless of if the boxer using it is using bag gloves or boxing gloves. In fact, leather is the preferred material for mixed martial artists that are practicing striking without gloves for a tournament that uses such rules.

Because leather is a natural product a bit of care is needed. Typically, a boxer will wipe down the bag after their practice session and someone that works for the gym will use leather cleaner once a week. As needed, a coat of leather conditioner will be added to make sure the leather stays supple and does not become brittle. While impressive to onlookers, most boxers would rather not have the leather shatter from a strong punch.

A heavy bag is essential to building stamina as well as coordination. Picking a proper size is important to make sure that the bag does not sway too much when the boxer punches it. If the bag is the wrong weight, it will be harder to punch because it is swaying too much. If it is too heavy, it can cause pain because it does not give enough for the size boxer.

The other consideration is how to properly hang a heavy bag. There are different types of mounts for leather heavy bags. Wall mounts are common in many boxing centers as are rafter mounts. For areas that either of these options is not practical, there are heavy bag stands as well.

If you are considering purchasing one, be sure to consider how to mount it, whether you need the additional expense of getting a leather bag as well as the correct weight for your weight and skill level. A heavy bag is a great investment for the person wishing to train in boxing.

Top quality leather heavy bag and speed bag platform selections and great prices.
